Long Island City continues to grow as one of New York City’s key commercial business districts. However, the area still suffers from pockets of underutilized space and a disconnected pedestrian experience. To address this, our design studio worked with the Long Island City Partnership on a temporary activation of street light banners along Skillman Avenue to knit together key crossing points at 49th Avenue and Queens Boulevard.

Inspired by the graffiti tags that once adorned nearby 5 Pointz, our design paid homage to the legacy of the area as a visual and street art destination, while helping to enhance the overall pedestrian experience.
